So, that time has come where you would like to purchase a home. Whether you’re getting old enough to move out of mom and dad’s house or you’re looking to settle down with your family you can still buy a home with bad credit. It may not be as easy, but it can certainly be done. Here are a few things and steps you may want to consider during your process.
How to Buy a Home With Bad Credit:
Clean up - First of all, you will want to clean up your credit score a little bit. So, lets say you have a 500 credit score, you will want to take some time to raise it. It can be done rather fast if you take the right steps. (This step is if you have time.)
Get rid of the bad – Now, get rid of that bad things that are causing your score to drop. Try to pay off your debts, stop opening credit cards, and make sure you pay your bills on time. These are count in raising your score. So, avoid doing the things that will drop it.
Right people – If you don’t have time to raise your score, you will want to make sure you find the right people to talk to. There are certain companies that work with people that have bad credit or no credit history at all. So, make sure you get involved with them.
Money – It will be a plus to you if you can put at least 3.5% down. If you have a bad credit score, you can at least prove that you had the discipline to save money for a down payment.
References – If you’ve bought or rented from a place before you and you made all the payments on time and in full be sure to tell your real estate agent. They will be able to contact references and maybe help your chances of getting the place you want. If you have a good history, and just a bad score that is even better.
Two people – If your score is really bad, and you’ve been foreclosed on or couldn’t make payments it may be a little harder. If you have a partner you’re going to live with and they have a good credit score maybe think about putting their name on the loan instead.
There are a couple different things you can do to make sure you get the house you want. You just need to be ready for anything, not feel bad if you get declined, and really try to improve your credit in the mean time!
